The current number of people in Australia with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) sits at approximately 354,000 and about 25,000 of these people were diagnosed with early onset AD, affecting them under 65 years of age. In this seminar high-profile Perth-based naturopathic nutritionist and author, Jan Purser will share with you the latest research and strategies for AD and mild cognitive decline after undergoing practitioner training with Dr Dale Bredesen and the Institute of Functional Medicine in the USA earlier this year. Learn about the causes and drivers, subtypes to consider, tests to employ and nutritional and herbal options to help your clients concerned about AD or already diagnosed with the disease.
Presenter: Jan Purser
Jan is a high profile naturopathic nutritionist, health writer and award-winning author. Her mission is your nutrition and her approach is practical, simple and effective.
Jan completed her naturopathic nutritional medicine qualifications at Nature Care College in Sydney in 1996, and has been in practice since that time, first in a busy Sydney CBD practice and in Perth since 2002. Jan’s passion for nutrition started during her first career as a home economist, where she did cooking demonstrations, recipe and product development and teaching. This included working in the Australian Women’s Weekly Test Kitchen for six years as an editor of cookbooks. It was during this time that Jan became passionate about the nourishment value and nutritional importance of food, which lead her to commence nutritional medicine studies while still working at the magazine.
Jan’s wealth of experience allows her to combine her expertise on health and nutrition with cooking, writing and public speaking. As an experienced nutritionist, ‘foodie’ and accomplished recipe developer, Jan has authored eight books on cooking, meditation and natural health. Her latest two books have won international awards: The Eat Well Cookbook, a fabulous gluten-free and dairy-free book; and the Detox Cookbook, Cleansing for Food Lovers.
In addition to her busy practice, she was the contributing natural health editor for Australian Good Taste magazine and her monthly column ‘Natural Solutions’ appeared in the magazine for fourteen years. Jan is often called upon by the media for her comments and opinions on natural health, and she is quoted regularly in health columns in The West Australian and Herald Sun newspapers. Jan loves to spread the word on how to eat well and achieve great health and she is an experienced, engaging and informative speaker. She calls on her wealth of clinical experience and extensive research when speaking to corporate and community groups on good health, nutritious food and living with vitality.
