Event description

Description

The Multicultural Centre for Women's Health and the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation invite you to join the Hon. Marlene Kairouz, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, for a forum on preventing gambling harm in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

CALD communities within developed nations - including Australia - tend to participate in gambling less than the overall population. However, those who do gamble are more likely to experience harm due to different beliefs about luck and chance, factors relating to migration, and issues around stigma and shame.

This event aims to help engage, inform and resource CALD communities and people who work with them to:

  • understand the prevalence of gambling in Victoria
  • explore the potential signs of gambling harm in their communities
  • discuss options for engaging their community to break down the barriers to harm reduction and help seeking.

Date: Tuesday, 24 October 2017
Time: 9.30am (for 10am start) - 12.30pm
Venue: Drill Hall, Multicultural Hub, 26 Therry St, Melbourne (across the road from Queen Victoria Markets)
RSVP: Wednesday, 18 October 2017. There is no cost associated with attending this forum.

Tea and coffee on arrival and a light lunch will be provided. Please advise of any dietary requirements when you RSVP.

For enquiries, please contact Al Parmeter on al.parmeter@responsiblegambling.vic.gov.au or (03) 9452 2657.
