Description

Presentation & Forum: It's a Mainstream Issue: Women + Disability + Violence

In It’s a Mainstream Issue: Women + Disability + Violence’ hear from Tricia Malowney as she upicks the complexity of the social issue of violence against women with disbailities and facilitates an honest, open discussion certain to educate and inspire.

Tricia passionate disability rights advocate committed to social justice and human rights who advocates for better access to services for all marginalised Australians, and to ending violence perpetrated against women with disabilities.

Tricia ensures that a gender lens is applied to the disability sector as well as mainstream policy development and service provision. This is important because anecdotal evidence shows that women with disabilities experience violence at higher rates than other women but most services only collect data on an ad-hoc basis, which means that the extent of violence is under reported, if reported at all.

The time has come for women with disabilities to be included in the demographic data sets to ensure services can provide access to those who need it. Accurate data collection informs the development and funding of service provision.
