Presense: Locality and Identity Opening Event

About this event

Join us at the Manningham Art Gallery for the opening of our latest exhibition, Presense: Locality and Identity by artist Rhys Cousins

Rhys Cousin’s project encourages us all together to create new connections to our locality , through our feet and our eyes. The installation literally invites the viewer to feel the textures of and re-connect us through our feet to place. It is a grounding to place, through feeling the texture of our local urban surfaces. Our toes and feet are loaded with nerves which often go without a direction connection to Country due to the wearing of shoes. The intention is to have people walk, stand, sit, lie on the installation and converse about what they feel and see.

The visual projection reimagines local advertising as poetic and representational of the people behind the object. It is both a visual identity of the municipality and an extension of the owner/occupant’s own identity speaking to the street and broader cultural fabric.

Together, this exhibition seeks to reimagine our experience of the street (and consequently the city) in a new light.

Limited numbers, registration essential.

All visitors to the Art Gallery will be required to register their attendance via QR Code upon arrival and comply with current COVID-19 guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of face masks when social distancing cannot be practiced.
