Every August we all get a day off to look at large vegetables and eat questionable hot-dogs.
No one wants to spend their Ekka sober, so start your pre-drinking early and come get wrekked with Brisbane's finest live acts.
INTRODUCING THE INAUGURAL PRE-EKKA WREKKA.
Brought to you by the good folks at Sailor Jerry, come on down and try your luck at Black Bear Lodge on August 9th. Featuring performances from Shady Bliss, The Dollar Bill Murrays, Bixby Canyon, and Nice Biscuit, all the night before the Ekka Day Holiday.
Four friends from Brisbane make up this psychedelic band that formed in 2011. With enthralling melodies, funky beats, tremendous guitar solos and moments of grunge, feel at once euphoric and haunted by their progressive musical creations. Shady Bliss completed recording their debut EP "Ocean Screams" in November 2012 which was released digitally on the 7th of March. "The trippy tone of the evening is only confirmed with the arrival of the next performers for the night, Shady Bliss. Their set was a mixture of Floyd-esque psychadelia and some modern surprises. Lead singer Morgan’s rough and powerful voice formed an unusual but pleasant juxtaposition with the music from his bandmates." - Jacob Carson, Society of Sound.

The Dollar Bill Murrays [SINGLE RELEASE]:
The Dollar Bill Murrays make music that sometimes sounds a bit like a rainbow having an existential crisis, and sometimes like a serene lake on fire. With their first EP released to the world and getting press from 4ZZZ, ToneDeaf and AAA Backstage, they are very excited to release their new single 'Medicine' on August 9th. The Dollar Bill Murrays deliver fuzzed out rock with a make-out groove.
Bixby Canyon [SINGLE RELEASE]:
On August 9th they will be launching their follow-up single to 2012's 4zzz Hot 100 no. 33 'On Broken Knees' at Black Bear Lodge. New tune 'Better When' is an evolution of the Bixby sound and shows a maturity in both musicianship and lyrical content. After their recent comeback gig at The Bearded Lady, AAA Backstage reviewer
Ash Minto described them as a blend of Royal Blood meets The Smith Street Band. We're not sure what that means but if you're keen to find out as well then swing by Black Bear Lodge early to catch their set in support of Shady Bliss & The Dollar Bill Murrays.
Nice Biscuit are a 7 strong band of mates who all live dotted along the 196 bus-line. Their genre is yet to be confirmed but could be psych-soul-kewlband-blues drenched in reverb harmonies or something like that.
