Event Details

During this Network Meeting we will be delivering two different Infection Control Courses by Marjen Education Services. You are welcome to attend just the one course or both, whatever you find most suitable. The 1st session will exclusively focus on instrument processing while the 2nd session will provide an infection control update. When registering please indicate your session preferences. There will be a 45 minute break between the two sessions to allow time for Networking and a light supper.

AGENDA


3:30pm to 4:00pm - Registration and Afternoon tea


4:00pm to 6:00pm 

Session 1: Instrument Processing - 2 CPD APNA points

Includes:

  • Identification of single use items
  • attention to personal safety, use of PPE
  • preparation and workflow,
  • initial clean, ultrasonic cleaning, brushing / washer disinfector,
  • drying / packaging / sealing,
  • loading / unloading,
  • monitoring, record keeping,
  • storage / tracking (tracing) / recall
  • validation.

6:00pm to 6:45pm - Dinner and Networking


6:45pm to 8:45pm

Session 2: Infection Control

Topics covered:

  • recommended staff immunisation and why - some specifics relevant to your practice, about the flu vaccine
  • a receptionist tool kit for suspect measles/flu/gastro. Using it for suspect significant communicable disease
  • correct use of alcohol-based hand rub as the gold standard for hand hygiene – competency checking ourselves. Hand washing, presurgical requirements, correct glove use, handcare (reducing skin damage)
  • attention to surfaces and hands with MRSA for dressings etc
  • the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) – two volunteers for using pandemic and spills PPE
  • environmental cleaning responsibility of staff in working hours – identifying frequent touch surfaces
  • managing a fake vomit spill and blood drop (by demonstration)
  • correct identification of clinical waste as per the national standards
  • immediate response to a body fluid exposure e.g. needlestick injury
