Course overview

 

In this 3 hour workshop you will discover just how prevalent mental health issues are in contemporary Australia.  Participants will learn how to provide appropriate and timely referral, how to de-escalate a mental health crisis whilst maintaining their own safety and that of their client. 

 

 

Topics covered


  • Briefly discuss depression, anxiety and psychosis. 
  • Learn how to recognise the signs a client may be experiencing a mental health crisis. 
  • How to safely de-escalate the situation.
  • Provide appropriate resources in order to support and keep your client safe. 

 

Who should participate?

 

Priority of access to this training is given to staff and volunteers currently working in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded services located in the local government areas of: The City of Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside.

 

 

How do I get there? 

 

There are a number of different transport options for you to choose from depending upon your departure point.   

  • Trains: Bondi Junction Train station is located 6 minutes walk (600 metres) away from the Junction Neighborhood Centre.  Trains on this line are T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra lines. 
  • Driving: metered on street parking is available or use the car park in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Ebley Street, Bondi Junction - located 1 block away from the training venue.

About the facilitator

Danni Meredith

 

Danni Meredith has enjoyed a variety of training and educational roles within the Vocational Education and Not for Profit sectors since 2004. Prior to this Danni worked as a Nurse Educator throughout the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service.  Danni holds a Certificate IV in Training and Asssesment (TAE40110), a Masters in Education of Adult Education and is an accredited Mental Health First Aid and Older Person Mental Health First Aid Trainer.

VAST provides face to face courses, managers' breakfasts, volunteer training, customised training opportunities, including our highly sought after, "Subsidised Training" program. 

VAST is part of the Southern Sydney Connection partnership with 3Bridges and STARS and is a programme of The Junction Neighbourhood Centre.
