Practical strategies for neurodiversity inclusion
Overview
Intended for a range or role levels, from directors and managers to project officers, this practical session builds understanding of neurodiversity and the Autistic experience, shows how environments can unintentionally exclude, and equips staff with simple, everyday strategies to make spaces more accessible and supportive.
Expect clear language, relatable scenarios, and tips you can apply immediately across communication, sensory factors and wayfinding.
During this training, you’ll learn how to:
· Develop a solid understanding of neurodiversity and the Autistic experience - plus the terminology to speak about it accurately and respectfully.
· Learn how spaces and environments can unintentionally exclude Autistic and neurodivergent people.
· Understand practical strategies to support inclusion across communication, sensory processing, executive function and social interaction.
· Identify common environmental barriers and learn to identify specific actions to reduce sensory load.
· Adapt communication styles to different needs.
· Understand overwhelm, and how it can impact participation in public and community spaces.
· Identify practical steps you can take to make your space more inclusive and welcoming for Autistic and neurodivergent people.
