Practical Implementation of Universal Design for Learning workshop

Practical Implementation of Universal Design for Learning workshop

By Dr Matt Capp

Overview

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) allows teachers to cater for student diversity within Australian classrooms

Australian classrooms are diverse. Applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) within the Explicit Instruction Model allows teachers to cater for this diversity. UDL involves thinking about the strengths and functional impacts for all students within a classroom. Teachers then implement strategies that support all learners to overcome their barriers to the learning process. Effective usage of teacher aides is an important pedagogical practice to consider.

During the workshop participants will explore how to practically embed the UDL framework into their planning. At the end of the workshop, participants will walk away with a series of lessons, based on the Explicit Instruction Model, which include Australian Curriculum Content Descriptors and Achievement Standards, UDL-aligned strategies for all students, and how they will use a teacher aide (if they have one).
