About the Guest Speaker:
When Katie was 21 years old, she and her partner (now husband) and brother bought an old run down town house in Newtown (Sydney) and spent the next 18 month renovating it. At the end of the 18 months they sold the house and made $100,000 profit between the 3 of them, quite a boost at a time when the average wage was $34,000.
Since then she has had a passion for renovating, developing and investing, and has read and attended hundreds of books and seminars on investing. She loves everything to do with investing.
However it wasn’t until she had 2 boys that she turned her passion into a business, Freedom for Women. Freedom for Women offered basic financial and investment education through workshops and one-on-one meetings. When her family moved to the Groote Eylandt (Northern Territory), she reluctantly wound down the business, however continued to educate herself in this field, completing a Bachelor of Business (Finance) and an Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning.
When they returned to the mainland, she joined a financial planning company and started helping clients with their financial goals. She now works for Empire Financial Group as a financial planner specialising in advising women on achieving and managing financial independence. She brings a unique experience to financial planning and Empire Financial Group with over 20 years of personal investment experience, 5 years as a business owner working specifically with women and financial literacy, in addition to working as a business adviser for The Chamber of Commerce.
