Pound-a-Petal Library Bag - Aldinga
Overview
'Tataki-zome' or flower pounding is the Japanese art of hammering flowers to create patterns on fabric. The outcome is a vivid, organic imprint — almost like a floral fossil — that preserves the plant’s shape, color, and essence.
Children will work with their accompanying adult to arrange fresh flowers on a calico library bag. Then they'll gently hammer the flower with a hammer or a rock until the colour and shape have been transferred onto fabric.
Please bring a wooden chopping board. Feel free to bring a small hammer if you have one. Don't worry if you don't have a hammer as we will provide flatish rocks for pounding the flowers. All other materials will be supplied.
