Event description
POSTPONED BPD core competency 2-day workshop - Expression of Interest ONLY Ballarat, Victoria

About this Event

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Spectrum Personality Disorder Service has been funded by the Australian Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Foundation to deliver 2-day BPD core competency workshops nationally as part of the National BPD Training and Professional Development Strategy. The aim of each 2-day workshop is to better enable clinicians and service providers to recognise, respond to and treat people living with BPD and be inclusive of family and friends. Ongoing mentoring and supervision will be offered to participants for the life of the project.

This workshop will cover the core competencies clinicians require to work effectively with people with BPD including:

  1. Understanding the diagnosis of BPD (including symptoms, prevalence, causes and evidence based treatments)
  2. Co-morbidity and co-existing disorders in BPD
  3. General principles for the treatment and care of people with BPD
  4. Treatment structure
  5. The therapeutic relationship
  6. Partnering with families, partners and carers
  7. Working with risk
  8. Skills development focus
  9. Clinician self – awareness
  10. Recovery in BPD

As part of the National BPD Training Strategy participants from the core competency training may be given the opportunity to further extend their knowledge base by participating in a two day intensive Train the Trainer workshop. Participants will be selected from across all jurisdictions based on selection criteria. After satisfactory completion of the Train-the-Trainer, they will be invited to join the Australian BPD Foundation’s national register of endorsed trainers to deliver the BPD core competency training.
