Event description
This workshop provides strategies for educators to support children/ students to have positive behaviour.

About this Event

This workshop is for educators, other professionals or parents who teach children/ students with tricky or challenging behaviour. The presenters, Leanne Longfellow and Dr Alex Ahlgren, will provide practical and relevant ideas to implement positive behaviour support for all children/ students, with a particular focus on those with autism or other disabilities or developmental delays. Positive behaviour support is an evidence based method where appropriate behaviour is increased and behaviour that interferes with learning is reduced. It provides a supportive learning environment for children/ students and is an essential tool for educators and parents of children with tricky behaviour. Participants will learn about functional behaviour assessments, appropriate interventions and how the function and purpose of behaviour must be determined before effective supports are developed.

In particular there will be a focus on:

  • The ABCs (antecendent, behaviour and consequences).
  • How behaviour serves one of the four functions of behaviour.
  • Each of the four functions of behaviour (sensory, escape, attention & tangible).
  • Practical and relevant strategies.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This workshop is suitable for special education, early childhood, junior primary, primary, secondary educators, including assistants, and parents.
