Pop-up Seaweed Library
Event Information
About this event
A glamping library with books about sea-weed and soothing ocean sounds, creating a contemplative space for you to kick back and relax and get educated. It is a calm call for action - to arm ourselves with knowledge; to continue making personal connections, and to form collectives - amongst authors, artists, marine biologists and the public, so that once enough people have removed their eco-blinders when it comes to marine algae we are mobilised for positive environmental change.
Seaweed Appreciation Society international (SASi) are a mobile experimental platform dedicated to artistic research into seaweed and marine ecologies. They host events that enhance appreciation for seaweed as a subject. Together with artists, scientists, philosophers, performers and those with a general interest in seaweed, they explore, query and celebrate interspecies conviviality between human and seaweed.

Taking over the former Party Emporium shop building in the Queen Victoria Market precinct, Testing Grounds is bringing you a wide variety of workshops, performances and installations. Dance the afternoon away to some of Melbourne’s favourite music acts, learn how to wrap avant-garde Christmas presents, train to be a parkour warrior ninja, enjoy the sweet sounds of a brass band, learn to dye your clothes using vegetables, enjoy a seaweed bath, make some wearable art and propagate some seeds. This free program of activities is something that the whole community will enjoy exploring.
