Description

Political updates from across Southeast Asia

In this one-day public forum, invited experts will provide an analysis of the current political situation in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste and Thailand and discuss the broader implications of events in these countries for our region.

Drawing upon expertise from around the world, these presentations will provide up-to-date information on developments in Southeast Asia relevant to scholars, students, practitioners and the general public from across the disciplines and beyond.

In 2019 the forum focues on:

  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Timor Leste
  • Thailand

Our exciting line-up of speakers confirmed for the day are:

  • Professor Edward Aspinall, The Australian National University
  • Professor Clinton Fernandes, UNSW Canberra
  • Mr Hoe-Yeong Loke, Independent Researcher and Writer
  • Dr Aim Sinpeng, The University of Sydney
  • Dr Eve Warbuton, National University of Singapore
  • Ms Tricia Yeoh, University of Nottingham Malaysia

Each of our country-specialists will speak for 20 minutes, allowing 10 minutes for audience questions, debate and discussion. Each of our experts are instructed to pitch their talk to an interested, but not necessarily academic, audience so the talks are able to be enjoyed by a diverse audience.

Our event will wrap up with comments from Dr Eve Warbuton who will reflect on the day’s proceedings and gave the audience some key take-away messages from the day.

See the event page for the full program.
