Launch Housing’s Australian Homelessness Monitor is the first longitudinal study of homelessness in Australia and tracks key data about homelessness, looks at its root causes, and examines policy impacts over the years.

Developed in conjunction with the University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland, this independent data sets a benchmark for action to address Australia’s housing crisis and continue to inform state and federal government policy.

On Monday the 14th of May Launch Housing will host a deep-dive briefing at the Victorian State Library where the researchers will guide you through this important work.

Afterward, participate in a question and answer session followed by drinks and light refreshments.

Getting to the venue:

Transport:
Train – Melbourne Central station is directly opposite the Library's Swanston Street entrance.

Tram – there are tram stops near entrances on Swanston Street and La Trobe Street. Trams that stop at the Swanston Street entrance are 1, 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72. Trams that stop on La Trobe Street include 12, 30, 35 and 109.

Car - The Library doesn't have on-site parking, but there is paid street parking on La Trobe Street and several pay car parks close by, including at Melbourne Central and QV. There are three parking spaces for people with a disability permit in La Trobe Street.

The Experimedia Room can be accessed from the Swanston Street entrance by heading through the entry foyer to the central room and turning right. From the La Trobe Street entrance, also head straight through to the central room. The Experimedia room will be on the opposite side of the room on the right.

What is the Australian Homelessness Monitor?

  • The Australian Homelessness Monitor 2018 (the Monitor) tracks key data about homelessness and the causes of homelessness.

  • The new, independent data will set a benchmark for action to address Australia’s housing crisis.

  • This Monitor brings together the key data policy makers need to make sure all Australians have safe and secure housing.

  • The first step to addressing homelessness is to define the problem and key statistics. The Monitor will track the changes in rates of homelessness over time.

  • The Monitor will inform state and federal government policy.
