This lesson is an introduction to programming in Python for people with little or no previous programming experience

About this Event

This Software Carpentry workshop will introduce the building blocks of the Python scripting environment. Participants will learn about basic programming concepts including simple and complex data types, conditionals and looping that are applicable to Python and other languages. This workshop will prepare participants to carry out batch analysis and equip them with the knowledge to start creating automated pipelines to increase data processing power and productivity.

What should I bring into the event?

Training computers are available, but you may also want to bring your own laptop with wireless internet access (ideally configured for the Eduroam network) and with Anaconda and Python 3 pre-installed

What prior experience do I need?

No specific experience is required, although previous use of the command line interface will be helpful

Who should attend?

Researchers looking for scripting capabilities to run batch analyses, to link processes to create a basic pipeline, or to automated repeated tasks for efficiency and reproducibility. The workshop is relevant for all disciplines.
