PLAYshop: Smash or Add
Overview
There are 2 dates for this PLAYshop, please book into one of the following:
Wed 14 Jan, Wed 21 Jan
1 - 2.30 pm
In this playful, hands-on workshop, participants will explore clay in a way that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and impermanence. Working in small groups, everyone will begin by shaping a simple air-dry clay sculpture of their own design. But there’s a twist: each piece will be passed around the group where the next person will make their own creative decisions, either subtle or dramatic!
As the sculptures travel from hand to hand, they will evolve in unexpected and often surprising ways. Some may grow into elaborate creations, while others may be joyfully destroyed and rebuilt again. The process encourages participants to let go of ownership, embrace change, and discover the fun of co-creation.
This workshop is designed for all ages and abilities, and no previous clay experience is necessary. The emphasis is not on producing a finished artwork but on the shared experience of making. At the end each participant will take their original piece home and group will have created a series of collaborative sculptures that tell the story of many different imaginations at play.
Come prepared to get a little messy, laugh a lot, and see how creativity can flourish when we build (or break!) together.
Extra info: This playful clay workshop is designed as a multi-generation event, for ages 6 to 106 years, all children must be accompanied. Funded by the City of the Arts Trust Grants Program.
Bring with you: Bring a playful attitude and your sense of adventure, and remember to wear clothes to be messy in.
