Plant X - with Dr. Elizabeth Frost discussing the health and the National Honey Bee Genetic Improvement Program - online presentation

About this Event

Plant X online program will be presented by the Orange Cowra Cabonne Science Hub, DPI - Plant Pathology - Orange, with leading scientists and artists with Dr. Elizabeth Frost

INTRODUCTION - Bee Biosecurity

This workshop explores how Plant Health effects Bees.

Elizabeth Frost will give a presentation about the management of the National Honey Bee Genetic Improvement Program in collaboration with researchers and farmers in the beekeeping and horticulture industries. This program records hive data from honey production and disease resistance to pollen foraging and stinging behaviour, she intends to breed pedigreed queen bees and works to increase the number of beekeepers selling queen bees. Elizabeth has worked with government colleagues and the NSW beekeeping industry on issues related to bushfire response, bee biosecurity, pollination, policy, and beekeeper education.

Videos will be shown forming part of an engaging series of online workshops. Audiences will be invited to participate in explorative activities to investigate the health of plant systems, including pest diseases and beneficial insects.

Our objective is to interview scientists in the field across a range of disciplines, and then to encourage audiences to go out and collect specimens of their own for further exploration through microscopy and art equipped with a Plant X pack (sent on request)
