Attention All Nature Lovers! We need your help. Join QTFN & world class experts to record plant diversity at Mount Mellum Nature Refuge.

About this event

Join us for our next Citizens For Refuge Ecology (C4RE) Camp on 21-22 May as we record the diversity of plants at Mount Mellum.

Come roll out your swag under a canopy of stars and help Queensland Trust for Nature (QTFN) build a better understanding of biodiversity values in our state’s AMAZING Nature Refuge network.

This year we are surveying Mount Mellum Nature Refuge, a conservation property 10 minutes from Landsborough in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Novices to experts, students to elders, lone wolves to families, everyone is welcome!

Activities include plant surveys, identification workshops, hikes and walks, all topped off with dinner around the camp fire in the evening.

Citizens for Refuge Ecology (C4RE)

Citizens for Refuge Ecology aims to utilize the power of citizen science to inform conservation activities on Private Nature Refuges throughout Queensland.

Each year we run a series of four camps focusing on a diverse range of organisms including Plants, Mammals, Invertebrates, and Birds.

What is Plant Camp?

Plant Camp is a one night, two-day plant survey focussed on learning about the diversity of plants on this year's focal property, Mount Mellum Nature Refuge (directions and facilities outlined below). We will rotate through a set of guided activities led by QTFN and experts.

Attendance at this event includes:

  • Participation in a series of hands-on activities led by experts on the diversity of plants on our focal reserve.
  • Contribution to a year-long program to build a better understanding of biological values on the reserve, which in turn helps guide its conservation.
  • All meals provided in a beautiful rural setting where you can focus on relaxing and getting the most out of your time in the bush.

Key Activities:

  • Learn to Identify and monitor plants,
  • Learn about Queensland's Regional Ecosystem framework
  • Learn how our landscape impacts the distribution of plants
  • Searching for rare and endangered plants
  • Some night time spotlighting to see if we can find any creatures on the property
  • Eating yummy food and yarning around the camp fire

A detailed activity schedule will be sent out closer to the event date.
