Event description

Description

This workshop is designed for student teams or individual staff to help develop the comprehensive planning required for students at the ‘pointy end’ of the spectrum. Erica Handley, an experienced high school teacher with a degree in special education and more than 20 years’ experience working with schools around supporting students on the autism spectrum, will present this practical workshop.

This session will identify practical ways to successfully support students with complex needs, including setting up a student support team, development of a positive behaviour support plan and a safe management plan, identifying long and short term goals, supporting staff wellbeing through coaching and mentoring, and using the 3 Ms to measure, monitor and manage the intervention program. References to data, case studies and current autism friendly programs will be covered. This session will help participants develop a student’s behaviour support plan in readiness for the start of Term 1, 2018.

The workshop also provides opportunities to network with other schools and student teams in similar circumstances, and to gain new ideas and perspectives on supporting students with high support needs.
