Plain English business writing short course – live half-day webinar
Overview
Become a better – and more confident – writer
Most writing is too long, too vague and nowhere near as effective as it should be. In other words, knowing how to write well will give you a huge advantage – regardless of whether or not you use AI.
Taught by a former Sydney Morning Herald editor with decades of business writing experience, this is a lively and practical business writing course filled with plenty of exercises.
Only eight places are available to ensure everyone can easily participate.
Digital handbooks and certificates will be given, in addition to a recording of the webinar.
What does this business writing course cover?
You’ll learn key techniques you can immediately apply to your work, whether you’re writing to colleagues, clients or the public.
More specifically, this course covers:
- setting the right tone for your audience
- how to use plain English, even when explaining complex issues
- thinking about what the reader needs to know – and what you need to say
- the power of short sentences and how to use them
- writing in the active voice
- using positive language
- using strong verbs
- clarifying your message
- writing in the inverted pyramid style
- structuring sentences and paragraphs to make them more compelling
- cutting your own writing
- formatting writing to make it easier to scan.
The course also talks about writing with AI – both the good and the bad. It will give you the skills to guide AI properly if you do choose to use it and, most importantly, the understanding of what good writing is supposed to look like.
