Event Details

From the essay, film-making, poetry, documentary, vernacular media, digital archives, memoir and design, nonfiction is increasingly a site of creative, theoretical and analytical interest. This inaugural nonfictionLab Symposium 2013 seeks to place some markers, critical and adventuresome, across the interdisciplinary domain of nonfiction studies.

The nonfictionLab is an interdisciplinary research centre for critical practice investigating approaches to nonfiction, its forms and frames.

Based in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, the nonfictionLab brings together critical practitioners in creative arts, design and humanities.

We foster collaborative research projects in partnership with fellow scholars and artists, and with industries and communities, local and international.

We provide support for emerging researchers and a growing community of research students.

We produce events, activities, publications and artefacts that explore the relation between the creative and the scholarly to generate debate and new knowledge from multiple perspectives.

We embrace the contestable and ambiguous nature of the concept of nonfiction as a positive point of intersection for developing and extending disciplinary frameworks and new interdisciplinary enquiries.
