Pitch Night: eCommerce

Consumer behaviour towards traditional shopping is changing rapidly. Even though eCommerce has been around for a while now, the constant improvement and innovation in technology is shaping the way transaction works in the retail world.
In the true spirit of collaboration, we have partnered with RetailTech Melbourne this month to showcase four up-and-coming startups, that are revolutionising and empowering the local retail and ecommerce industry. These startups will not only be pitching for $150,000 worth of prizes, they will also be pitching to a crowd of enthusiasts, venture capitalists, and representatives from the industry.

Our judges for the night are key influencers in the eCommerce industry:
Ahmed Fahour AO - Managing Director and Group CEO, Australia Post
Ahmed Fahour has extensive experience as a management consultant and corporate leader – in Australia and internationally.
He was appointed Managing Director and Group CEO of Australia Post in February 2010. Since then, he has been implementing a major transformation program that is focussed on carefully managing the impact of the community’s declining use of letters, while building new capabilities and services to support Australian eCommerce, including growing export opportunities into Asia for Australian small businesses.
Mr Fahour was previously the CEO of NAB’s Australian operations from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, he was Citigroup’s Head of Corporate Development and CEO of Citigroup Alternative Investments, in New York, where he also served on the company’s Global Management Committee.
Mr Fahour is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at La Trobe University. He is also currently the Chairman of Pro-Pac Packaging Ltd; and a Director of the Dubai-based logistics company, Aramex. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in January 2017.
James Hudson - Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Australia and New Zealand, Alibaba Group
Prior to joining Alibaba Group, James was the Chief Executive Officer of the Australia China Business Council’s NSW Branch supporting member companies in their trade, investment and business engagement with China. Prior to joining ACBC, James was the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as the China and East Asia Adviser providing guidance to the organisation on its strategic science partnerships, and commercialisation and licensing activities with the Asian region.
James studied Chinese and economics at the University of London and spent four years living, studying Chinese and working in Beijing. James has been appointed to a number of Advisory Board and Ambassador roles for various organisations including the Asia Education Foundation, the China Australia Millennial Project, AsiaRecon, Asian Football Cup and Austrade’s Approved Destination Status Advisory Panel.
James is proficient in Mandarin and a strong advocate for deeper relations and building Asia capability in Australia.
Ben Hensman - Square Peg Capital
Ben Hensman is a Melbourne-based member of the global Square Peg Capital team. He is passionate about software platforms and technology businesses. Prior to joining Square Peg, Ben was an Investment Analyst at Fidelity International in Sydney, covering investments in the telecommunications, media, software & technology sectors across A&NZ, including Australian software businesses Aconex and WiseTech Global. Square Peg backs outstanding entrepreneurs solving significant problems in a differentiated way through technology or online-enabled business models, focusing on Australia & New Zealand, South-East Asia and Israel.
Ivan Lim - CEO & Co-Founder, Brosa
Ivan Lim is the co-founder and CEO of Brosa, a next generation designer furniture and e-commerce retailer. Launched in 2014 after its founders discovered there was no easy and affordable way to purchase premium furniture, Brosa is a vertically integrated retailer working directly with leading craftsmen around the world to create unique designs and experiences for customers. Brosa raised $2 million from AirTree Ventures and is now a team of 60 headquartered in Melbourne.
In 2016, Ivan was listed as one Forbes Asia's 30 under 30 innovators, and Brosa was listed as the 26th Fastest Growing startup in The AFR's Fast Starters list. Ivan is a serial entrepreneur with a career leading high performance marketing and growth teams. He was previously the Head of Marketing and Growth at Elto - acquired by GoDaddy in 2015.
Kate Cornick - CEO, LaunchVic
Kate Cornick is the CEO of LaunchVic, the Victorian Government’s $60 million startup initiative.
Kate is deeply passionate about the role of innovation in Australia’s economy and society more broadly, and has considerable experience in technology innovation across startups, academia, corporates and government.
