Joy is a RN with a Masters in Clinical Practice (Vascular Access) and is Vascular Access Board Certified. She has worked and specialised in the field of vascular access for many years and is passionate about improving patient outcomes through engaging with health professionals to increase their critical thinking skills to optimise care of patients requiring a Vascular Access Device. She has extensive experience in the insertion and management of PICCs and the setting up of Nurse led Vascular Teams.

For over ten years Marguerita worked as a Clinical Educator in ICU, Simulation and Acute Care settings. She has strong knowledge and skills in the areas of Vascular Access and Counterpulsation, and is an advocate for improving patient outcomes through evidence based clinical practice. This combined with Marguerita’s extensive critical care experience ensures that she facilitates engaging clinical learning opportunities for all.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Align local practice and policies with evidence based research for PICCs
  • Determine why and how to select the right device Identify, assess and measure vessels using ultrasound
  • Describe best vessel selection criteria for PICCs and midlines
  • Demonstrate Tip Positioning and Navigation technology
  • Demonstrate the modified Seldinger technique for PICC insertion
  • Describe steps to successfully complete a PICC exchange
  • Demonstrate safe and effective PICC management
  • Prevent, detect and effectively manage complications
