Event description

Description

Philanthropy in the Pub is an event for a younger generation of change makers who are looking at creating social impact in a fun and engaging way, in a relaxed environment.

It is a place to explore new ways of giving, learn from those who are experienced in giving and hear about the positive impact giving can have on disadvantaged communities. Network and explore social change amongst people with similar values, ideas and personal journeys.

This event is designed for those who are seeking a personal social conscience/philanthropic journey rather then those who are only working in the philanthropic industry.

Our next session will be around collective giving – the coming together of individuals to jointly fund social change through scaled impact.

Our Q+A style panellists consist of inspiring experts, including:

  • Lisa Cotton

    Lisa Cotton

    The Funding Network

    CEO

  • Sally Garis

    Sally Garis

    Social Impact Consultant

  • Charlotte Sangster

    Charlotte Sangster

    General Manager, NSW

Lisa Cotton- As Co-Founder and CEO of The Funding Network (TFN), Lisa has pioneered an inclusive approach that is transforming the way all sectors come together to tackle community problems. TFN is Australia’s first capacity building social enterprise that harnesses the power of storytelling via live crowdfunding events, then uses these as a lever to create deeper connections into community via skilled volunteering and mentoring programs. Lisa is Non-Executive Director of mentoring organisation Kilfinen Australia, former Chairperson of Documentary Australia Foundation, former board director of School Aid Trust and now one of its Ambassadors, and sits on the Leadership Council of the Kokoda Track Foundation. Lisa was named in ProBono Australia’s 2017 Impact 25 list, recognising the inspirational people in Australia’s social sector that do great and often unrecognized work.

Sally Garis- Fifteen years experience working across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors as a consultant, project manager, fundraiser, international educator, published researcher and health clinician. Through her roles in the for-purpose sector, Sally's work and passion has been directed at finding and scaling innovative solutions that create a culture of giving and strengthen Australian communities. Prior to this, Sally's career in health was extensive - teaching internationally and lecturing regularly at Sydney and Macquarie Universities. Sally is a published author in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at conferences and workshops. She also worked as an expert consultant to one of Australia's leading insurers on management of compensable injuries. Sally is currently completing an MBA specialising in Social Impact through the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW). She also sat on the Board of the Women’s Plans Foundation through the Board Observership Program and was Vice-Chair of the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Association (NSW).

Charlotte Sangster- Charlotte is a budding philanthropist with one small problem… she has no money! Therefore she believes in the power of collective giving and is currently in the process of setting up a brand new giving circle called “Cause & Effect” which brings together philanthropic minded people on a budget. With their powers combined the future members of “Cause & Effect” will be able to collectively contribute thousands of dollars each year to worthy charities with an income of less than $5M; decided on by vote! How diplomatic! Charlotte is also the General Manager of Muscular Dystrophy NSW, a disability service provider specialising in neuromuscular conditions. She reckons she has the best job in the world, and we believe her!

Cost of the event includes 2 x drinks and canapes. There are also prizes to be won!

Look forward to seeing you there!
