Event description
Educators think of PBLs as ‘Problem-based learning’ or ‘Project-based learning’. There is a new addition to the PBL family - Phenomenon!

About this event

About this event

'PhenoBL' is based on the principle that learning in school should be anchored in real world phenomena that cross discipline boundaries, and are identified by the learners as relevant to them. Starting with the 2016/17 school year, Finnish schools mandated that all students from the ages of 7 to 16 participate in phenomenon based learning projects every year. In the USA, the new Next Generation Science Standards in the USA are based on natural phenomena. At Reshaping Schools we are seeing this new PBL as a way to maintain a sense of play and curiosity in students of all ages. This webinar has three focus points: identifing phenomena that engage students whilst still addressing requirements of state curricula; using phenomena as an authentic way to merge science and engineering practices into interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary units of inquiry; the applications of simulations, augmented reality and virtual reality to expand the classroom environment.
