Australian Gifted Support Centre
Invites you to camp in…
We had such a great time in June we thought we’d try to get together again in November for
An Activity Day for Gifted Children under 6 years
(This is being held as part of our Gifted and Talented Weekend Camp)
This time the theme will be SPACE.
Take off for a day of fun, exciting activities, workshops, games and exploring.
Extensive knowledge of SPACE is not essential.
The program will include a range of activities that tap into the creative, scientific and imaginative skills of the children attending. There will also be time for the children to play together and get to know each other,
This is a program for parents and children. As well as having the opportunity to join in some of the activities with your children, you will meet other parents on a similar journey raising gifted youngsters. There will also be a parent information session about the social, emotional and intellectual needs of gifted youngsters, facilitated by Helen Dudeney – Gifted Education Consultant AGSC and camp facilitator.
For the past 25 years I have been co-ordinating weekend camps for gifted children aged 6-14. The camps provide opportunities for gifted children to participate in a variety of workshops, and to spend time socialising with like-minded peers. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

The strength of programs like camps has always been the children themselves. Giving gifted children the opportunity to spend time with like minded peers engaged in interesting or challenging activities and social experiences is vital for their wellbeing.
"If gifted and talented students are to achieve their potential, they require expanded educational opportunities beyond the scope of the regular school program. The students need to explore different career options, crafts, ideas and skills that challenge their abilities. Our children need personal attention, adult commitment, role models they can admire and talk to."(Hegeman, 1987, p123)
The camp aims to address some of these needs within a fun supportive environment.
The hands-on open ended style of activities are well suited to all children with bright enquiring minds including those who are active, visual spatial and those for whom standard classroom activities often don't suit.
The Theme provides inspiration for a wide range of activities including science and invention, maps, world travel, countries and cultures. All these ideas will be explored through craft, creation, invention, drama, storytelling, and other hands on activites. There will be plenty of time for imagination, fun and making new friends.
