Event description

Description

Morag's permaculture home and garden tours on International Permaculture Day and World Environment Day tours were sold out, so by request, this tour is on again.

Morag invites you to join her on an in-depth guided tour of her family's award-winning permaculture oasis - an abundant polycultural garden surrounding their owner-built home. Morag will walk you up from the organic market at 10am giving you a brief introductory tour of the ecovillage along the way (a 10 minute walk). Please book early.

At Morag's place you will see the permaculture ethics, principles, zones and core strategies in action. These include:

  • zone one kitchen garden
  • perennial and self-seeding vegetable garden
  • herb garden - medicinal, culinary, teas
  • polycultural food forest
  • integrated chicken system
  • compost systems
  • worm farms and worm towers
  • bokashi system
  • simple modular owner-built ecohome (mortgage free)
  • hand-built grey water system
  • compost toilet system
  • solar energy system
  • windbreak
  • bushtucker
  • and more

This is a chance to see a well-designed domestic-scale permaculture system in action and to ask lots of questions. Morag designed and built this house and garden with her family and knows all the details. She created this without going into debt and is happy to share with you how they achieved this.

This home and garden also forms the classroom for Morag's home-educated children - an open air space to learn, connect, explore and ask deep questions. The kids will probably join in explaining how things work too.

It's a beautiful garden with so many interesting plants to taste and smell. Morag will pass around samples for people to smell and taste as we wander through her garden, sharing stories about their background, and how to grow, harvest and use them. She will also share the technical details of how the house, energy and water systems work.

We'll take a break to enjoy a fresh cup of garden tea before walking back down to the market in time for lunch. For your tea, you can select from a range of herbs and bushtucker plants grown right here in the gardens.

Limited number of places for this fascinating and popular tour.
