Event description

Description

Perimeter is thrilled to continue its programming initiative, Perimeter Talks, in 2018. Taking place approximately once a month, the series features lectures, panel discussions and more casual in-conversations with publishers, artists, curators, designers, writers and editors. The talks explore and address various themes and issues relating to contemporary photographic, art and design publishing – helping demystify, challenge and offer insight into publishing as a medium and a practice.

Our final talk for 2018, Soft Copy: in conversation, will see the founders of New York-based publishing imprint and design studio Soft CopyAmy and Brian Kanagaki – discuss their approaches, motivations and methods for working with the photographic image. Since launching the studio in September the duo have published an eponymous publication, Soft Copy 001, offering a poetical vantage on the photography of Josephine Lochen, John Ciamillo, Massimo Leardini, Olivier Kervern, Jody Rogac, Adam Bellefeuil, Sarah Blais, Bennie Julian Gay, Marius Uhlig, Drew Vickers and Daniel Weiss. The talk will be followed by a launch.

Brian Kanagaki is a photographer and designer based in New York City. Brian was born and raised in California where he studied Fine Art & Printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute. In his professional practice, Brian has designed artist books, self-published photography books, and worked as an art director and designer for Rizzoli, Hearts Magazine, Let's Panic Magazine, Garage Magazine and more.

Amy Kanagaki is a senior producer specialising in the end-to-end creative production of original photo and video content. Originally from Australia, Amy moved to London in 2006 where she lived for seven years before deciding to settle in New York. Amy also runs Soft Copy with her husband, and is a co-creator of The Wine Zine, a publication that highlights makers, drinkers and purveyors of natural wine.
