Event description

Description

On Friday June 30th we bring you a night of inspiring films about community action and people power against big corporate interests - that threaten to damage communities and the environment forever. We will focus on 3 different stories with speakers and films on each.

'Guarding the Galilee' is an award winning documentary on the battle to stop the biggest coal mine in Australian history, Adani’s Carmichael project. Presented by Queensland born actor Michael Caton this film looks at the disastrous impact on the surrounding environment and introduces some of the people battling to stop it.

'Protecting Manuwangku' is an inspiring story that follows anti nuclear activists and an Aboriginal community determined to save Muckarty land from becoming a nuclear waste dump. Anti nuclear activist and film producer Natalie Wasley will speak about this campaign and it's success.

Film maker Claire Lewis will introduce a preview of the film 'We Live Here', a documentary that tells the story of residents from the Waterloo Tower blocks facing eviction and their activist art campaign - a powerful expression of what is possible when a community comes together.

The Schedule:
6.45: Guarding The Galilee - Introduction and Film Screening
7.30: We Live Here - Introduction and Preview
7.45: Intermission
8.00: Protecting Manuwangku Introduction and Film Screening
