Event description

Welcome to the 10th Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics Conference (PED)

Monday 28 September to Wednesday 30 September, Melbourne, Australia

Hosted by The University of Melbourne

The International Conference on Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics is carried out biennially by scientists and practitioners interested in pedestrian and evacuation Dynamics.

The field of pedestrian movement and evacuation dynamics is an inter and multi disciplinary field. The modelling of evacuation and pedestrian dynamics has evolved from calculations based entirely on physical processes such as granular flow, to simulation that now begins to include psycho-social processes accounting for decision making and group behaviour. New developments in AI, augmented reality, gaming and 3D modelling are emerging topics in this field. Experimental works has evolved to consider sophisticated experiments to support new theories in this field.

Accessibility and egressibility, and the relationship between them, has moved to the forefront of crowd dynamics. This is further complicated as a building is used according to a number of management concerns as safety, security and operations, that are employed under different scenarios such as emergency and non-emergency. The need for analysis to assess the effectiveness of management procedures is therefore significant and expanding.

Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics welcomes contributions from physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science and vision, psychology and sociology as well as contribution from practitioners.
