Description

My Boss is an App: Young People’s Job Futures and the Certainty of Uncertainty

Associate Professor Lucas Walsh

Pedagogy in the Pub is a series of monthly discussions, facilitated by some of the keenest educational thinkers from Australia and abroad. Each month, our speakers draw on their expertise to explore ways that can reimagine the ‘promise of education’ in a ‘post-truth’ world.

In November, the discussion will be led by Associate Professor Lucas Walsh who will discuss the young people's job futures within the context of increased global precarity and uncertainty in the labour market.

Associate Professor Lucas Walsh is Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. Lucas’ research focuses on the political, economic, cultural, social and technological dimensions of young people’s participation, and the implications of these for educators and policy.

His current research focus includes youth transitions to employment and young people’s experiences of citizenship. His latest book, Educating Generation Next: Young People, Teachers and Schooling in Transition, is published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Lucas has worked in corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors. He was previously Director of Research and Evaluation at The Foundation for Young Australians. He has been invited to advise local, state and federal governments, including the National Curriculum Board (now ACARA) and Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, presented internationally, and published four books.
