Description

Globalization and Education after Trump and Brexit

Professor Fazal Rizvi

Following the unexpected electoral victory of Donald Trump and the Brexit vote, many observers, both academic and popular, have argued that this swing to the right represents a backlash against globalization.

The idea of post-globalization has been proposed, implying the rise of ethno-nationalist sentiments, together with erosion in the power of global institutions.

In this talk, Professor Fazal Rizvi will consider these claims; speculate on which aspects of globalization are likely to decline and which not; and what implications might the idea of post-globalization potentially have for educational policy and practice.

Fazal Rizvi is a Professor of Global Studies in Education at the University of Melbourne, as we well as an Emeritus Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has written extensively on issues of identity and culture in transnational contexts, globalization and education policy and Australia-Asia relations.
