Patawalonga Lake Management System Tour
Thu. 2 March 2017, 4:15 pm – 6:30 pm ACDT
The Patawalonga Lake receives runoff from 230 km2 of mixed land use. The Sturt River, Brown Hill Creek, Keswick Creek, Patawalonga Creek and the Adelaide Airport Drain discharge to the sea through the Barcoo Outlet at the northern end of the Lake whilst southern and northern gates are operated to allow daily circulation of sea water. Referred to as the Patawalonga Lake System, the Barcoo Outlet and arrangement of gates and other facilities is operated and maintained by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources to safely and efficiently discharge stormwater to sea. Come and hear about the operation of the PLS, challenges of maintaining infrastructure and why you no longer read about the Patawalonga Lake on the front page of the ‘Tiser.
