Description

Partnerships for Profit & Purpose
How to Develop Effective Cross-Sector Conversations

Workshop Dates & Locations

  • Monday 11 November 2019 - Sydney
  • Tuesday 12 November 2019 - Melbourne
  • Thursday 14 November 2019 - Brisbane

Trends in business and consumer expectations are encouraging the intersection of profit and purpose. To understand and benefit from these intersections, consider new ways of conducting conversations and exploring partnerships together. But what are the practical steps to increase the flow of ideas between you and your potential partners? How can you build the trust needed to maximise opportunities?

This full-day workshop equips you with tips and techniques for developing effective cross-sector conversations. Facilitated by experts in collaboration and shared value, Andrew Hamilton and Phil Preston, it covers:

  • The drivers of these trends and the opportunities it creates for you
  • The shift in mindset required for cross-sector partnership success
  • Case studies, examples and development frameworks
  • The role of trust and what underpins it
  • Evaluation criteria and measurement systems

Plus it's a great environment for connecting with people facing similar challenges working on similar opportunities who bring their own valuable experience and perspectives to the table. You will take away tips, tools, and techniques for:

  • Identifying opportunities and partners that meet your strategic objectives
  • Convening collaborative conversations with potential partners and stakeholders
  • Accelerating the trust-building process
  • Developing partnerships in an agile way
  • Creating the foundations for implementation success

This workshop is suited to for-profit, for-purpose, and government attendees - the more diversity the better - and there will be ample time allocated to unpacking the challenges you are facing and strategies for overcoming them. You may want to attend with a current or potential future partner and take this journey together.

Your Facilitators:

Andrew Hamilton – Partnerships Facilitator and Shared Value Practitioner

Andrew worked in Corporate Executive roles before joining Social Ventures Australia – where he was responsible for funding partnerships, mentoring and pro bono development in Queensland. Then two leadership roles in NFP organisations (mental health and early childhood education) prepared Andrew to create bigger impact. Andrew founded Social Scaffolding in 2016 to service the demand for stronger philanthropic and Not For Profit relationships to create social change with a focus on partnership development, social impact, and shared value. He and his wife Anna have – so far – successfully navigated the challenges of raising two teenage daughters.

“Andrew brought a wealth of experience from his corporate, NFP and social services backgrounds to guide our strategic thinking and facilitate our partnerships development workshop. Positive Partnerships is the best way to describe Andrews philosophy and approach to cross-sector collaboration.” Sandra Nugent, Dementia Australia

Phil Preston - Collaboration & Shared Value Expert

After leading teams in the investment industry, Phil set up his own business in 2008 to assist with collaborative challenges and has worked with hundreds of organisations across all sectors. In 2013, he was invited by Michael Porter and Mark Kramer to Boston to help form a network of ‘shared value’ practitioners, promoting the use of the profit motive to tackle social and environmental challenges. He is a leading practitioner and case study author in this field and has appeared on big stages, in boardrooms, basketball courts and the back of Bourke (literally). Phil has one wife, two kids and a dog called Gizmo who ate his bed.

"Phil helped us think more broadly about business partnerships to identify and explore shared value opportunities in our goal to improve Indigenous health. He has a good understanding of corporate and not-for-profit perspectives and great ability to identify mutually beneficial solutions.” - Kyrn Stevens, Danila Dilba Health Services
