About this Event
The transition to high school can be a tad unnerving, but knowing what's ahead and what can be expected is critical for parents to be supportive — and to survive with your family’s equilibrium intact. Key to enabling your child to feel confident and at ease lies in coming to an understanding that, as parents, you may need to take the back seat as your child seeks to find their new ‘tribe’. This workshop provides a balance of laughter and strategy to help parents gain realistic insights into the life of a Year 7 student at school. It provides tips and addresses topics around friendships, social media, academic expectations, co-curricular communication and, most importantly, family.
THE ACADEMIC TOOLBOX — STRENGTHENING PARENT CAPACITY As your child transitions into the new domain and academic realm of high school, they will be guided by their teachers but, even so, parents often feel uncertain about their role in best assisting this new academic journey. This workshop is designed to introduce parents to academic language, foundational skills of learning, meta-cognitive skills, academic resilience, and a growth mindset. Practical strategies on topics such as time management, tackling assessments and homework routines are also highlighted.
