Description

Delve into the art of traditional Chinese papercutting techniques with the award-winning multimedia artist Dr Tianli Zu. In a workshop inspired by the stunning sculptural works On Sharks and Humanity Tianli will explain the meaning behind the symbolic patterns and guide you through how to fold and cut while considering positive and negative space.

Join this workshop to create your own masterpieces to take home. No previous papercutting experience is necessary. All materials provided.

About the artist

Born in Beijing, China, Tianli Zu now lives in Australia. Her art offers viewers an experience of Chinese culture, weaving history with the contemporary. In 2015, she was a finalist in the Archibald Prize with her portrait of the former Art Gallery of NSW director Edmund Capon. In 2016, her painting of Penny Wong won the People’s Choice Award at the Salon des Refusés. In 2017, her pentatonic rooster and giant ox lanterns will be on display in the City of Sydney’s Lunar Lanterns exhibition and Tiamli was a guest lecturer at Sydney University in 2017.
