ANU College of Business and Economics warmly invites you to attend this event for alumni and friends in Shanghai. You will have the opportunity to connect with your local alumni community, and hear from a panel of industry leaders.

Panellists will discuss:

How much is enough? Making financial decisions that create wealth and well-being

In this discussion, Mr Jamie McCarry and Mr Arun Abey will talk about Arun’s latest book, How Much is Enough? The book draws on the latest behavioural research to explore the relationship between money and happiness. It has been published in various countries and languages and described by UCLA’s Professor Shlomo Benartzi as a book “that will change your life balance, not just your bank balance”.

Panellists:

Mr Arun Abey

Mr Arun Abey
Chairman, ANU College of Business and Economics Advisory Board
Chairman and Co-founder, Walsh Bay Partners
Director, The Smith Family

Is it possible to be rich and happy? How can we use wealth wisely to produce the great outcomes that we hope for ourselves and our children and avoid the terrible outcomes that we know that the poor use of money can sometimes cause?

These are the questions that have intrigued Arun Abey for over 35 years working as a financial adviser and wealth manager for individuals and institutions. He has also worked in academia, been an entrepreneur and a strategy adviser to some of the world’s largest firms, including being Head of Strategy for the AXA Asia Pacific Group for a decade. He is involved in a number of philanthropic and cultural activities and is the author of various international best sellers.

What connects these diverse activities together is Arun’s passion for ideas that help people thrive: to enjoy happier, more meaningful and financially secure lives. Arun’s latest book, How Much is Enough? draws on the latest behavioural research to explore the relationship between money and happiness. It has been published in various countries and languages and described by UCLA’s Professor Shlomo Benartzi as a book “that will change your life balance, not just your bank balance”.

The Australian National University’s College of Business and Economics inducted Arun into its Hall of Fame in 2013 for meeting its criteria of “Exemplary professional achievement and distinguished contribution to community”. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade recently honoured Arun in a photo exhibition at Parliament House, featuring 12 Australians of Sri Lankan origin to have made a significant contribution to Australia.
