Charlotte Coulson, Aged Care Educator, PEPA
Working in Aged Care comes with many joys, but also it’s fair share of challenges. This session will provide an understanding of the importance of self-care when caring for an elder at the end of life. It will assist in helping you to recognise the impact of stress and burnout, and how this could affect the compassionate palliative care you wish to provide. With so much available on the internet now, this session will also introduce where you can go for more information to assist you in improving your own self-care.
Judith Bailey, Clinical Nurse Specialist, MPaCCS
Metropolitan Palliative Care Consultancy Service (MPaCCS) visits Aged Care facilities in Metropolitan Perth. The MPaCCS team includes specialised nurses, social workers and a palliative care consultant.
Reflecting input from a multi-disciplinary approach, this session will share a series of small case studies, offering practical insight into: symptom management in the terminal phase; management of severe pain in a deteriorating resident; and suggestions of how to approach end of life conversations with residents and families, including ACP documentation.

RACEPC is funded through the National Partnership Agreement (NPA), a Federal and State government initiative. RACEPC is designed to educate and mentor Palliative Care Link Teams to provide best practice care and support for residents and their family and carers.

Charlotte Coulson
Charlotte's journey into Specialist Palliative Care started with a PEPA Placement back in 2013. As a Clinical Nurse working at Broome Hospital, Charlotte wished to further develop her knowledge and understanding in this vital area of nursing care. After her initial placement, Charlotte attended PEPA and Cancer Council WA workshops, and was inspired and supported to undertake a Masters in Palliative Care Specialism.
After nine years working in specialist palliative care in the Kimberley region, and then Victoria, Charlotte is thrilled to now be working as a PEPA Aged Care Educator, sharing her knowledge and skills with Aged Care Health Care Providers across Australia.
Judith Bailey
During her nursing career Judith has always been drawn to, and worked predominately in palliative care, feeling that it's the most holistic form of nursing. Previously based in New Zealand, Judith has worked in the community in both semi-rural and urban areas. Coerced into further education by her colleagues, Judith grew to love her study journey, culminating in a Master of Nursing-Clinical and registration as a Nurse Practitioner- Adults.
Since returning to Australia Judith has worked for Silver Chain Hospice Care Service and now in her current role of CNS with MPaCCS. Judith's role at MPaCCS allows her to share her knowledge and mentor staff to provide palliative care, including conducting symptom reviews for residents and facilitating discussions regarding future care wishes.
