This training is funded for Tasmanian Guild members and their staff.

Facilitated by Joyce McSwan (Managing Director, PainWISE), the PainWise Pharmacy Professional Service Program is Australia’s first pain management program for community pharmacy that combines clinical treatment strategies as well as self-management techniques within the setting of a community pharmacy. The program consists of one full day training with an optional further half day.

ABOUT PAINWISE TRAINING

Clinical Program: PainWISE Foundations Training Program (full day)
This is an entry level program that equips pharmacists to be able to address everyday over-the-counter pain conversations in an effective and meaningful way. The Foundations program allows the pharmacist to:

  • better guide the pain sufferer in their purchasing decisions,
  • conduct medication reviews specific to pain management in an effective and time efficient way,
  • highlight clinical interventions relevant to persistent pain,
  • build interdisciplinary relationships with relevant allied health professional networks and general practitioners
  • increase the pharmacist’s value proposition to the patient through individual pain assessment, care planning and action planning sessions.

Once the training has been completed pharmacists will have access to technical support through PainWISE Support consisting of:

  • Access to the PainWISE Clinical team led by Joyce McSwan, through hotline telephone and hotline e-mail support.
  • Secure Password Access to the online PainWISE Resources
  • Listed on the “Find a PainWISE Pharmacy Map” (Pharmacies can access this for $99 per annum)


Commercial Implementation Program: One-Extra Degree -Making the Difference Program (half day)
The ‘One Extra Degree’ Commercial Implementation Program helps pharmacists to put the clinical learnings into action, guided by relevant and simple tools. The tools are available online for revision and can be used as an in-service tool for other pharmacy staff.

Achieving a strong foundation and practice in the clinical science of pain management enabled by the PainWISE learnings:

  • will aid the pharmacist to effectively implement professional services to patients and improve health outcomes.
  • will enable the pharmacy to achieve commercial potentials through effective patient engagements and is facilitated by Joyce McSwan
  • is a practical approach to pain management in a community pharmacy setting.
  • provides pharmacists with the knowledge and tools to provide excellent clinical care and advice to patients and work with other healthcare practitioners





Accreditation number: CX180010
The pre-reading has been accredited for 1 hour of group 1 CPD credits, suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan. The interactive case study activities have been accredited for 4 hours of Group 2 CPD credits, suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan. The additional 2.5 hour presentations have been accredited for 2.5 hours of Group 1 CPD which can be converted to 5 hours of Group 2 CPD credits upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities, suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan. Participants have the opportunity to gain a total of 1 Group 1 CPD credit plus 9 Group 2 CPD credits.
