Event description
Whether you like to SUP, canoe or kayak, join us on the Brisbane River for this year's Paddle to Battle Depression

About this event

Join us on Sunday 31 October 2021 for White Cloud Foundation’s annual Paddle to Battle Depression.

This year we’ve changed things up a little.

Instead of the long 35km paddle down Brisbane River, we’re making it more accessible to more people by shortening the distance to 20km.

And you can choose whether to race it and compete for the Paddle to Battle Depression Cup, or join the community paddle and take your time.

Both the 20km Race and 20km Community Paddle will start at Riverhills and end at Graceville.

The Community Paddle will kick off at 8am and the Race will start at 9am. Both are expected to be finished by midday.

You can paddle any suitable craft as an individual or double. Please note that if you plan to use a SUP, please use one over 12’ 6”.

Registration for both the Community Paddle and Race is $59 per person. For the cost of your registration, you’ll receive:

• Paddle to Battle Depression shirt (Unfortunately, as of 26 October, we have no more shirts available. You can, however, still register to take part at the reduced rate of $50 per person).

• BBQ lunch and drinks at the finish line

• Access to support boat on the river and assistance from event crew

Last year, we relaxed the fundraising component of this event because of COVID, but this year we really need you help us raise some much needed dollars for our programs that support people living with or at risk of developing depression.

Our Meals for Mums program saw a 66% increase in demand last year as more mothers battled with perinatal depression as a result of the effects of COVID. White Cloud Foundation has also launched the service in Townsville, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, Gold Coast and Mackay with more regional locations to come on board before the end of the year.

White Cloud Foundation has also just rolled-out its Tele-Mental Health Service to all Queenslanders. This service provides easy access to a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals who will provide treatment and support for depression and anxiety from multiple angles. The service is free to anyone who is feeling down, overwhelmed, isolated, grieving, anxious or just needs to talk. There is also no need to have a GP referral or Mental Health Plan. All anyone needs to do to get our help is call 07 3155 3456.

So we can keep these services free to those in need, please set up your online fundraising page on GoFundraise after you’ve registered to take part in the Paddle. Whether you raise $20 or $2,000 – we’ll be extremely grateful for your support!

You will receive a full Paddle Pack after registration with more detailed information such as timings, locations and safety for the event.
