19th September 2017
SEBEL Resort and Spa, Hawkesbury Valley

The conference aims to engage organisations in the Western Sydney region in conversations, innovation and service development to better meet the needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Communities in dealing with and preventing domestic and family violence.

We will:

  • Showcase innovations, current research and developments in the area of domestic and family violence prevention in multicultural communities
  • Provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration and forward thinking for service providers in the Western Sydney Region to better meet the needs of CALD communities and families experiencing DFV
  • Raise the profile of Western Sydney as a region at the forefront of policy and project development to meet the needs of CALD families and communities addressing DFV
  • Provide workers in the Western Sydney region an opportunity to hear from high profile experts across the field and from a range of cultural community groups to gain insight and inspiration

Target:
Community, Government and Non-Government workers in Western Sydney who work with people from different cultural backgrounds. This includes DV Specialist workers; Family support workers; Child protection workers; Health care professionals; Legal practitioners; Police Officers; Youth Workers; CALD specialist workers; Workers in Housing and homelessness; Disability support workers etc.

Outcomes we hope to achieve:

  • Increased understanding of the particular experience of domestic and family violence in CALD families and communities

  • Greater capacity as a region to meet the needs of CALD community members at early intervention and crisis stages of violence prevention
  • Increased cultural competency across mainstream services in the Western Sydney region through developed partnerships with communities and their leaders
