In June's meeting, Georg Lippold and Praveen Gauravaram will take us through some of the current challenges in modern cryptography.
Encryption technology has changed significantly since its invention by the old Greeks. Most people are familiar with block ciphers and public key cryptography, and use them in their every day life. But what are current challenges in cryptography, and is there room for improvement?
This talk gives a brief overview of the development of cryptography until today and explores open challenges with respect to cloud computing, such as computations on ciphertext. We review recent research developments and the efficiency of proposed schemes, and give an outlook to alternatives that may not offer as much functionality but provide better efficiency for certain use cases.
