Description

As of 2017 all Victorian Schools are mandated to deliver respectful relationships in the school curriculum. VCAA specialist teachers have been appointed across the State to assist schools to identify where Respectful Relationships relates to the new Victorian Curriculum.

The Respectful Relationships team in the Outer East would like to invite schools across the Region to participate in this half day training. This training is for schools not participating in the Respectful Relationships program as Lead or Partner Schools and has been made available to all schools in the Outer East.

What is covered in the half day?

The PD will be divided into two sessions, the first covering;

An introduction to the place of respectful relationships in the Victorian Curriculum

The session will explore the Health and Personal and Social Capability Curriculum, including how teaching about respectful relationships links the Victorian Curriculum. Why teach about respectful relationships and the research that underpins it. The session will recommend resources to help schools explicitly teach and assess this part of the Victorian Curriculum. This session will include:

  • An overview of the curriculum structure
  • Introduction to the Health and Personal and Social Capability areas of the Victorian Curriculum
  • What is respectful relationships and how it relates to the Victorian Curriculum?
  • Importance of a whole school approach
  • Strategies for explicit teaching and assessment
  • Planning for implementation
    • Relationship to other curriculum areas
    • Progressing learning
    • Whole school planning
  • Resources for teaching and assessment

The second session will cover;

  • hands-on review of current teaching and learning programs and reflection about the changes that need to be made to address the Health and Personal and Social Capability Curriculum
  • Identifying where schools are at in relation to curriculum planning and identifying the next steps
  • Supporting development of curriculum plans, including
    • Teaching and learning plans to address the Victorian Curriculum for Health and the Personal and Social Capability
    • Identification of teaching and learning resources
    • Planning for assessment.
