ABOUT US & CAMP

ROUSTAH is one of 28 rural health clubs Nation wide, and are part of the National Rural Health Network. Our club represents the University of South Australia's Allied Health students and our aim is to provide information, placement opportunities, support, advocacy and organise events promoting rural and remote health practice among students.

ORAH, (Outback Rural Allied Health Camp) is an annual event aimed at giving students from urban demographics the opportunity to experience rural practice, engage with professionals in local areas, gain valuable information, learn practical skills contributing to their profession and encourage rural placement and practice for the future.

This year, we again chose the South East - Mount Gambier, to host the event where professionals come to present interactive workshops to share expertise, knowledge, practical based skills relevant to rural practice, as well as answer questions and discuss their experience living and working in a rural setting.

For example, the invited Midwife will be describing the gestation process and each student will have the opportunity to use a pingpong ball and balloon to demonstrate contractions during childbirth. The Phlebotomist is teaching students the skill of venipuncture, using medical grade training devices to practice drawing blood; the Paediatrics nurse will be teaching students how to administer asthma inhalers to newborns.

*Please note tickets must be purchased before the 6th of September to secure a place, and spots are limited. Please ensure you bring your Student ID and ticket with you, ready for boarding.
