Event description

Description

At this years Ocean Care Day festival, join scientists from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science on a guided snorkel through the restored crayweed forests of Cabbage Tree Bay. Crayweed is an important seaweed species that disappeared from the Sydney region 40 years ago – now SIMS scientists are bringing it back.

We will gather outside the Bower Cafe, and learn about seaweed restoration while looking out over the iconic Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve. Then we will take the plunge to find schools of colourful fish, patrolling Port Jackson sharks, and diverse underwater forests.

For this event, participants will be required to fill out registration paperwork in advance including a medical declaration of good health. If you can't fulfill these requirements but would still like to learn about our crayweed restoration project, we will also be hosting other events during the festival - stay tuned!
