Description

This workshop, taught by by experienced market gardener and educator Adam Willson, is based around the steps to setting up and operating an organic market garden. Adam owns and operates Mount Tamborine Organic Garden and runs an agronomic service, Soil Systems Australia.

This is the first of a two-day training about organic market gardening. Participants can enrol in one or both days. The cost per day is $80 and includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Topics for this workshop include:

  • Site selection for optimising microclimate, soil type, water sources, farm design

  • Marketing options - knowing your market, outlets

  • Selection of core equipment, tools, 2-wheel and 4-wheel tractors

  • Crop selections and rotations

  • Soil nutrition, insect and disease management - for optimal flavour and keeping quality

  • Typical seasonal timetables

  • Challenges faced in the first few years,

  • Investing for climate change

  • Significance of data collection

  • Time out for reviewing your operation
