Event description

This June, experience the thrill of the Opera in the Upper House starring the youthful, energetic and enchanting Brisbane City Opera. Don’t miss the magical new production brought to life by the future legends of Australian opera supported by a chorus of burgeoning talent from the University of Queensland Opera Program.

Step back in time and be captivated by the splendour and history of the Upper House, with ornate plaster coffered ceilings and walls embellished with 22 carat gold leaf and two Waterford Crystal chandeliers hanging overhead. Formerly the site of the Legislative Council Chamber, it only makes sense to bring to life themes of romance, betrayal, quarrels and politics through an opera extravaganza.

Hosted by the Former Parliamentary Members’ Association Queensland and raising money for the Mental Health Association Qld, this is a one-of-a-kind event you don’t want to miss!

About Mental Health Association Qld

Did you know that almost one in two Australians experience a mental health condition in their lifetime?

In any given year, one in five Australians experience a mental health condition and sadly more than half of these people don’t seek help. Every day, an average of eight Australians take their own lives. While Australian organisations and communities are more aware of mental health conditions and the impact they have on our workforce and our nation, they do not feel equipped to respond.

It is Mental Health Association Queensland’s mission to promote awareness, acceptance and action on mental health for all Queenslanders. They believe the more we know about ourselves, our employees and our communities, the more we can reduce stigma and improve mental health. Mental Health Association Queensland host awareness and education events for organisations and communities, often targeting groups of people by their profession, whether they are responsible for supporting others in their workplace, and life stage.
