Join the second edition of OpenInnoTrain Summer School on the importance, theory and practice of research impact in academia and industry.

About this event

The OpenInnoTrain summer school 2022 covers the importance of research impact in both academia and industry and how impact can be delivered at different stages of research.

Summer School objectives:

By the end of this Summer School, you'll gain knowledge and an understanding of a step-by-step approach to generate impact both in industry and academia at each stage of the research process.

You'll be assisted in achieving your individual and professional research goals such as:

  • developing ideas with potential impact
  • publishing research outputs through various platforms.
  • implementing tactics to enable a highly visible research profile within industry and academia.

Summer School key learnings:

  • How to ideate impactful research ideas.
  • How to scope opportunities in industry to collaborate for successful implementation.
  • How to develop engagement pathways for developing university-industry collaborations.
  • How to apply tools and techniques to track the output of research impact and strategise future approaches.
  • How to pitch your ideas and use a canvas approach to design your pitches.

Who can attend:

  • PhD researchers at any stage
  • Post-doctoral researchers
  • Academics
  • Industry fellows

Summer School format:

The Summer School will run in both an individual and group format with a combination of workshops, lectures, individual feedback activities and pitches. It will run for five days (9–5pm CET) from 27th June to 1st July 2022 at INESC TEC (Porto, Portugal) and online.

Registration is required. Only registered participants will be accepted.

You will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the summer school and will have access to all material and templates for future use.

Registration to the Summer School is free of charge, however, spaces are limited (registration essential). Register Now to avoid disappointment! The sessions will be recorded and may be repurposed. Agreement is a condition of registration.

Summer school organisers

Professor Anne-Laure Mention is OpenInnoTrain Chief Investigator. She is the Director of the Global Business Innovation Enabling Capability Platform (GBI-ECP) and a (full) Professor of Management at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Anne-Laure is a visiting Professor at Université de Liège, Belgium and the Deputy Head of the Centre d’Evaluation de la Performance des Entreprises. She is also a visiting Professor at Tampere University, Finland, and a Fintech & Blockchain Fellow at Singapore University of Social Sciences.

Dr Avni Misra is a Researcher at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Avni's research focuses on innovation management with interests in digitalised innovation, business networks and industrial marketing. Her qualitative research capabilities extend towards another key area of research that deals with the issues and management of gender equality. Additionally, Avni is a lecturer of product innovation and management and B2B Marketing at RMIT University.

Dr Ahmad Alaassar is a Postdoctoral Fellow at RMIT Europe, Barcelona. His research interests lie at the intersection between the innovation and entrepreneurship fields. Dr. Alaassar has a double degree PhD in Management from RMIT University and the University of Agder. Ahmad's publications have been featured in top-tier journals like Technovation, Technological Forecasting and Social Change and Small Business Economics. He has international teaching and course coordination experience at undergrad and postgrad levels.
